This I Can Promise

Marriage is the most beautiful thing.
For a man and a woman to meet,
Together,
Forever,
In holy matrimony.
Two people unite.
And on that day,
The man and the woman await
The time of fate,
And they celebrate
The love they did create
Which has brought them together,
Forever.

But some hesitate…

The bride’s mother interrupts
And states her opinion.
With her trying to stop this wedding
People are shouting,
Making their voices heard,
But the bride believes
In the love that they have for each other
Is one like no other.
She assures her mother
that the man she loves
Is the one for her, but -
The mother won’t listen.

The groom is worried,
So the bride hurried,
And told her mother not to worry.
She said,
“This I can promise -
It’s not a mistake.
Our ends will never break,
it will last forever.
No matter what you say,
I love him,
And I know he loves me too.
I wished you would give us all the best,
And for God to give you some rest.
Our love is stronger than a deep ocean tide
And I wish you would abide
And stay by my side.”

The mother wanted to say something,
But that something
Turned to nothing.
For a mother’s love for her daughter
Is something that can never be broken.
But she has spoken,
And her opinion will never change.
